Presentation
Recognising this disease quickly after presentation helps to eliminate the anxiety of the patient, as well as reducing excessively invasive investigations. We present a case report to enlighten Achenbach's syndrome. [okayama.pure.elsevier.com]
It presents as acute-onset bluish discoloration of one or more fingers and/or palms and is most frequently associated with pain followed by edema and paresthesia.[2] A preceding history of trauma can be present in up to 30% of individuals.[2] The acute [journals.lww.com]
The bluish discolouration was present on the finger with sparing of the tip. 55 year old presenting to the A&E department with painful discolouration of the right index finger. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
A previously healthy 40-year-old man presented to the emergency department with sudden onset of swelling and changes in colour and sensation in his right middle finger. [cmaj.ca]
Peripheral vascular disease differs from Achenbach's syndrome by its predominance in males and an older age of presentation. [rosecottagedoc.co.uk]

- Burning Pain
It is usually described by patients as an abrupt onset of burning pain in one or more digits with associated symptoms including swelling, cyanosis, pallor, coldness, numbness, itching, and difficulty moving the affected digits. [brownemblog.com]
- Edema of the Finger
[…] pain, edema, Achenbach syndrome Abstract: Achenbach Syndrome, almost known as paroxysm finger haematoma or acute blue finger, is a benign condition that occurs with a color change in the finger, especially the hands associated with pain and edema. [atenaeditora.com.br]
Skin
- Pruritus
The diagnosis is eminently clinical, based on the signs and symptoms present: cyanosis, edema, pain, paresthesia and pruritus. Complementary exams are normal and the treatment for this condition is only symptomatic for pain. [atenaeditora.com.br]
The lesions that appear clinically with pain, edema, paleness, pruritus and ulceration should guide the diagnosis toward acrorygosis or pernio. [elsevier.es]

Treatment
The patient’s condition resolved spontaneously within 5 days without any treatment. Based on the clinical presentation and course, we diagnosed Achenbach’s syndrome. [casereports.bmj.com]
3 26774542 BACKGROUND: Paroxysmal finger haematoma (also known as "Achenbach syndrome") is a benign condition resulting in the sudden appearance of bruising on one or more fingers, either spontaneously or after minimal trauma, and resolving without treatment [read.qxmd.com]
The patient's symptoms gradually improved and were completely resolved without specific treatment. Based on the clinical presentation and course, we gave a diagnosis of Achenbach's syndrome, developed in a young male. [okayama.pure.elsevier.com]
Abstract Background: Paroxysmal finger haematoma (also known as "Achenbach syndrome") is a benign condition resulting in the sudden appearance of bruising on one or more fingers, either spontaneously or after minimal trauma, and resolving without treatment [pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
There are many different opinions in the general treatment of the disease. Some of these views suggest that there is no need for treatment because of the benign course of the disease and that only follow-up is sufficient[ 10, 23, 24 ]. [wjgnet.com]
Prognosis
The symptoms can be startling to the patient, eliciting fear of something terrible when, in fact, the syndrome is relatively benign and has a good prognosis. [okayama.pure.elsevier.com]
The etiology and prognosis of the disease is still a mystery. It is of great importance to know whether the syndrome is seen in the brain and vital organs. [wjgnet.com]
Keywords: skin lesions, good prognosis, rare, benign, blue finger, achenbach syndrome Introduction Achenbach syndrome, also known as “acute idiopathic blue finger”, or “paroxysmal finger hematoma”, is a rare (fewer than 100 cases have been reported), [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Etiology
Kämpfen et al[ 6 ] have proposed the etiology of vasospasm through a case in which ergotamine was used due to migraine. [wjgnet.com]
There are no known risk factors such as trauma, drug use, bleeding disorders, or rheumatologic diseases associated with the etiology of this syndrome. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
It is of unknown etiology and has a benign course. Because of its low prevalence, available literature is limited, and most publications are case reports. No Latin-American publications were found on the subject. [elsevier.es]

The pathophysiology is unknown, as well as its causes, but there is the hypothesis that exists a local capillary fragility. [atenaeditora.com.br]
The pathophysiology of this syndrome is not entirely clear, but intermittent spontaneous hematoma formation is reported as its characteristic symptom. Achenbach syndrome is more predominant in the female population. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
Prevention
[…] syndrome includes Raynaud’s syndrome, ischaemic vasculopathy of the limbs, Buerger’s disease, acrocyanosis, Gardner-Diamond syndrome, collagen diseases and Chilblains disease, among others.4 5 The diagnosis is mainly clinical and there is no specific prevention [casereports.bmj.com]
They should also be counseled about the likelihood of recurrence to prevent anxiety if they develop symptoms again. [brownemblog.com]
Patients need to be reassured about the benign nature of the disease to avoid unnecessary investigations and prevent anxiety. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
