Presentation
In summary, we present a 46 years-old female who received radiotherapy of pineal germinoma. 5 year later she presented a second tumor an astrocytoma grade I, in cerebellum, received radiotherapy and 3 years later, presented a third different tumor, an [scielo.br]
The treatment of those neoplasms, when they presented at ages in which radiotherapy is precluded, is discussed. [revistaneurocirugia.com]
On imaging, these tumors share common features with diffuse low-grade astrocytomas, however, they tend to present with contrast enhancement. [radiopaedia.org]
Unfortunately, the treatment of glioblastomas is hardly ever curative at the present time, however survival and the quality of survival have improved considerably over the past ten years by combining treatments. [en.centredouleur.net]
Two patients presented hypertriglyceridemia; one, anorexia; another, a mouth ulcer; and one, amenorrhoea. [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

- Confusion
Glioblastomas can be confused on both CT-scan and MRI with metastases or with abscesses. [en.centredouleur.net]
On September 1999, she had several seizures with head trauma, followed by mental confusion, dysarthria, left hemiplegia and thorax pain. She improved after parenteral dexamethasone. [scielo.br]
Treatment
Treatment is dictated by the tumor's location and patient's symptoms. [aans.org]

Prognosis
As is the case with everything about anaplastic astrocytomas, the prognosis is also intermediate between low-grade astrocytomas and glioblastomas. [radiopaedia.org]
PMAs have a tendency to disseminate and, in some reports, have a worse prognosis compared with pilocytic astrocytomas. [emedicine.medscape.com]

Epidemiology Frequency United States Astrocytoma is the most common brain tumor of childhood. Researchers report that the annual incidence is approximately 14 new cases per million children younger than 15 years. [emedicine.medscape.com]
Pathophysiology
Pathophysiology Pilocytic astrocytomas (ie, WHO grade I) arise throughout the neuraxis, but preferred sites include the optic nerve, optic chiasm/hypothalamus, thalamus and basal ganglia, cerebral hemispheres, cerebellum, and brain stem. [emedicine.medscape.com]

Radiation therapy is especially avoided in children less than 5 years of age because of the potential for serious side effects and the lack of proof that radiation therapy prevents recurrence. [rarediseases.org]
